Viladat and Hejrat Day Speeches and Presentations
During the years that Inayat Khan lived in Suresnes, and also until the early thirties of the the twentieth century, mureeds used to mark important dates for Inayat Khan with speeches, and reading out telegrams and letters. This took place both at Viladat Day (his birthday) and the anniversary of his departure from India to America (Hejrat Day).
A number of these contributions have been collected, partly typed out from handwritten originals, and can be found below.
Also, mureeds used to present beautifully embellished birthday wishes, mostly with the signatures of attendants or senders affixed. These are known as ‘presentations’
Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan’s address at an Oude Loo conference in 1952
Recently we restored one of the hidden treasures in the Nekbakht archives: a very old wire recording, containing a speech by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, delivered at an Oude Loo conference in 1952. You can listen to the recording (it is not sure whether it is in Pir Vilayat’s own voice), and/or read the written text and the background document compiled by Ines van Dijk.
